Baker’s School of Aeronautics
Baker’s School of Aeronautics and the Tennessee Mid-South Aviation Maintenance Conference hosted an AMT Day picnic this year. The picnic was held in the courtyard at Baker’s School. Around 100 AMTs from Nashville and surrounding counties attended. Hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey barbecue, and barbecue balogna was served, along with plenty of side dishes. They were entertained by the McMurray Blue Grass Band (shown above) and more than 40 door prizes were given out, including tickets to the Auto Federated Parts 300 Races, overnight stays from local hotels, and even a couple of golf towels from Hooters! Fun was had by all.
Banyan
Banyan celebrated its third annual AMT Day on May 22 in honor of its maintenance and avionics technicians. Dave Valenta, Banyan’s director of maintenance, and Lou Homsher, Banyan’s quality assurance manager, organized the luncheon event.
Lou Homsher addressed the group and spoke about the culture of Banyan and how teammate opinions and ideas are listened to and incorporated when feasible. Followed by Banyan’s CFO, Jim Barcel, “AMT Day is an important day at Banyan because we honor your achievements and safety record. As a technician, you have the ability to affect the lives of others. Therefore, safety always has to be in the forefront of your minds. This is a tremendous responsibility and one that each of you has accepted with dedication and professionalism. Thank you for the excellent work and your commitment to safety.”
Banyan celebrated early due to the date failing on the weekend.
Banyan, located at Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), employs 60 maintenance and avionics technicians and has a total of 150 teammates companywide.
Haggan Aviation
Geno Haggan, president of Haggan Aviation located at Centennial Airport in Englewood, CO, hosted lunch for his weekend maintenance crew in celebration of Charles E. Taylor — AMT Day on Saturday May 24, 2008.
The meal provided by The Perfect Landing Resturant located at Centennial Airport consisted of 3/4-pound cheeseburgers with french fries, potato salad, and soft drinks. The lunch was topped off with chocolate ice cream sundaes. A program with information on H.R. 444 and the history of Charles E. Taylor’s many accomplishments followed lunch.
San Joaquin Valley College
San Joaquin Valley College is a 14 CFR 147 aviation maintenance school in Fresno, CA. It held its second annual AMT Day barbecue held in honor of Charles Taylor. Faculty members supply all the food and do the BBQ’ing. It has 45 students and invites local A&Ps to join in the celebration.
