Industry Mentors

The last several weeks we’ve been providing Bill O’Brien’s address so readers can extend get well wishes to Bill and his family. He is still in intensive care but has improved from when he was first admitted to the hospital.

His contributions to the industry have been huge: involvement in the FAA, IA renewal speaker, AMT contributor, industry champion, the list goes on.

We would love to hear your stories on how Bill has influenced your life and career. Or other people that have influenced your career path. Mentors don’t always have to have recognizable names to have been influential in affecting the growth of the industry or having a positive effect on someone’s life or career.

Thanks for reading and please continue to keep Bill in your thoughts and prayers. Cards and letters can be sent to 12508 Lt. Nichols Rd., Fairfax, VA 22033-2412.

Bill has spoken at several IA seminars that I have attended. He is always a great source of knowledge. He spoke of Eastern New Mexico University and peaked my interest. After the meeting we talked about the ease of completing the degree in Aircraft Technology. With this little bit of nudging from him I completed my degree within the next year. I always think of him when looking at my degree!

  2. Bill O’Brien has certainly had a positive effect on my craft, both professional and personal. The Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award that Bill created while in the FAA opened a huge door for recognition for men and women who are the “Faces Behind Safety”. Bill has suggested that I look into finishing my career and getting my I.A. Being an AMT for AA I do not have a need for an I.A. due to our having our own inspection department under Part 121. But as Bill said, “AMTs should always continue to educate themselves. With that kernel of wisdom I studied and passed my I.A. exam and am currently attending Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell to earn my Associates Degree in Aircraft Maintenance. Bill has supported efforts to pass AMT Day Resolutions and is a mechanic’s mechanic. I wish Bill and his family tons of prayers. Thanks Bill for all you have done and yet will accomplish in the future.
