U.S. Trade and Development Agency

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 3, 2009) – Aviation leaders from India, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets, and the United States, the world’s largest aviation market, will gather on Dec. 7-9, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., for a high-level, wideranging summit on the growth and future cooperation between these two aviation leaders.

Sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the 2009 U.S.-India Aviation Partnership Summit will facilitate dialogue between the two countries’ aviation officials and businesspeople on a variety of key topics, including air traffic management, infrastructure modernization, safety, training and environmental issues.

On December 8 at 8:30 a.m., the event will feature keynote addresses by senior government officials from each country, including:

• Dennis F. Hightower, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce

• The Honorable J. Randolph Babbitt, Administrator, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

• Leocadia I. Zak, Acting Director, USTDA

• M. Madhavan Nambiar, Secretary, India Ministry of Civil Aviation

The government leaders headline an agenda that features representatives from a variety of industry stakeholders, including airlines, aircraft and equipment manufacturers, airports, air traffic management specialists, maintenance providers, and more. More than 250 delegates are expected to attend the meeting.

“The expansion and modernization of India’s aviation sector is critical to the world’s economic growth and increasing importance in the global economy,” said USTDA Acting Director Leocadia I. Zak. “This summit will provide an important forum to share mutually beneficial opportunities for India and the U.S. in global aviation.”
